Health and Safety award for Brand team at Cemex, Rugby

March 13, 2014

Brand has been recognised as having had the highest Health and Safety performance during the January shutdown of the Cemex site in Rugby.

The Health and Safety recognition scheme launched on 26th December 2013 and encouraged Cemex to submit their contractors for the ‘Overall Recognition for Contractors’ award. The reward of a £3,000 holiday voucher was a very tempting incentive.

All companies’ performances were judged on a variety of criteria. Amongst many other reasons, Brand deemed themselves the best with well- maintained equipment such as stairways and ladders, regular risk assessments, tool box talks, safety inspections carried out on site and 100% PPE compliance.

The site team, led by Senior supervisor Shane Spencer, consisted of 70 men split into back to back 12 hour shifts, with a vast total of 29,400 working hours. There was a peak number of 118 standing scaffolds (plus various temporary access platforms) with a total tonnage of 605 tonnes.

Pictured in the gallery is Damien Spencer, Shane Spencer’s brother receiving the Cemex award. “Shane, myself and the team are extremely happy with our achievement and the recognition from Cemex. Even without the very generous gift, all the hard work has paid off and we will try our best to keep up the high standards.”

These facts and figures are just a small insight to how the team have shown impressive loyalty to their work and exceptional commitment to Health and Safety.
