The Elbląg Canal is a section of the waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the port of Elbląg. The task, which is being carried out by Budimex, involved the construction of fortifications of the banks of the canal with a total length of almost 15 km.
The strengthening was designed as a steel sheet piling topped with a reinforced concrete cap, executed in two technologies. In one case, prefabricated elements were used on the water side, while in the other, both sides of the cap were shuttered. In both cases, Hunnebeck system formwork was used.
The General Contractor for the task executed the cap in 18 m long segments. Each segment is being constructed in 3 stages. Depending on the needs, we supplied RASTO® or MANTO® wall formwork sets. We designed the formwork so that the tiebeams passed above the water table and the spacing of the slabs did not interfere with the existing ground anchors. At the peak of the work, 12 sets of formwork sets were working simultaneously on the site.
