Tiefenbachtal Bridge, Daxweiler

Renovation of the approximately 50-year-old bridge and six-lane extension of the motorway A 61

Scope

Development of an efficient solution for the forming of the 370m long cornice cap

Challenge

Complex bridge geometry, highest demands on efficiency and occupational safety

Performance

During the recently completed work of the almost 370 m long superstructure, the construction company Heitkamp Industrial Solutions GmbH used the top-running parapet formwork carriage developed by Hünnebeck for one half of the bridge. With this customised design from the Infrakit modular system, the site team managed up to three concreting cycles per week – which corresponds to a remarkable concreting length of 51 m bridge parapet.

The engineers from Ratingen were able to solve the technically demanding task at short notice because, among other things, the basic elements of the parapet formwork carriage consist of standard components. They come from the Infrakit modular system, which was specially developed for infrastructure construction and enables customised solutions from just a few basic elements. The parapet formwork carriage on the Tiefenbachtal bridge mainly consisted of Infrakit L and M belts, Infrakit spindles and various system adapters. The basic scaffolding was supplemented by heavy-duty castors, Hünnebeck's own Protecto side protection system and elements from the Modex modular scaffolding system.

A total of four formwork carriage modules connected in series with a total length of 18 m were used. The 7 m wide, extendable construction did not require any built-in parts on the structure and, at heights of up to 90 m, impressed above all thanks to its extremely safe, efficient operation and manoeuvrability exclusively from above.

Heitkamp planning engineer Cornelius Malan praises: "It was clear during the preparation phase that we would get a customised formwork carriage solution from Hünnebeck that was precisely tailored to our needs and that we could use to pour all types of parapets required on the construction site." The formwork carriage was also able to fulfil another important condition of the construction site without any problems due to the system: it does not require anchoring to the structure.
